crenellated campgates

Sometimes you find campgates with an interestingly decorated top row like the examples below. I think these may be an attempt to portray crenellated walls, like the last picture below. The campgates are all Constantius II, Siscia 217.

That is a very interesting suggestion, Victor. It will also link in with the 3D campgate coin which has been discussed before. I've looked at a couple of other types of crenelation and it seems to be a good match. I just wonder what the dots represent. I can understand the curved lines but since the dots also occur without the curved lines, I wonder if they are not representative of little windows or openings.
